Electricity

In science today we learnt about the parts of a battery and a bulb. Our task was to use a battery and one wire to light the bulb. Nell and Adam were the first pair to light their bulb, closely followed by all the other pairs.

Wendy Smith Poetry Competition

We got exciting news at lunch time today when we heard that Nell has been chosen as one of the prize winners in the annual Wendy Smith Poetry Competition. Nell's poem is entitled What is Magic? She read out the poem for us twice when we got back to class and we all agreed that it was a great poem. The award ceremony takes place on Thursday night in Schull Community College where Nell will read out her poem to all present and receive her prize. Well Done Nell!!

Book characters I would most like to meet

          Imagine walking into a library and coming face to face with two amazing people and one scary person.  One of them is weird looking, frightening and disgusting.  Another person looks lazy, sleepy, not so happy and annoyed.  The other looks worried looking,  sad and lonely. The first person is Voldemort from Harry Potter. The next one is Greg Heffley from Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.  The next one is Laura from The Wreck Of Zanzibar.

        First I would go over to Voldemort and ask him a few questions.  First I would ask him have you ever been nice to a person? Then I would ask him why are so evil and why did you kill Harry’s Mom and Dad?       

         After that I would go over to Greg Heffley and ask him a few questions. First I would ask him why are you so lazy?  Then I would ask him were you ever nice to your brother Roderick. And last I would ask him why don’t your plans ever work out?

        After that I would go over to Laura and ask her do you miss your twin Billy?  After that I would ask her do you still like Joseph?  And last I would ask her do you want to move to the mainland or stay in lonely and wrecked Brier?

       The reason I would like to meet these characters is because I would like to fight Voldemort,  be friends with Greg but not best friends because then he might treat me like he treats Rowley and would I like to be friends with Laura because she seems nice.

           I would like to meet all these people and hope one day it will come true.

Book characters I’d most like to meet

      Imagine walking into a library and coming face to face with three funny people Roderick Hefley, Greg Hefley and Homer Simpson. They are probably my three favourite book characters.

Roderick is funny cool, bold and lazy.

He has a cool van. He’s good at drums, he’s messy and he always gets an F in his tests.

Greg is funny, nice, unlucky, and lazy. He eats a lot of junk food. He loves video games. He’s smart, he’s a gem freak and he always has his eye on a girl.

And Homers crazy, fat and stupid .He can probably beat the worlds loudest burp and eat the most doughnuts in one minute.

If I were to meet Roderick I’d ask him how he was so dumb or lazy.

I’d ask Greg how he was smart or germ freakish.

And I’d ask Homer for some tips on burping or how to eat so much doughnuts in one minute.

I love these characters and I wish one day I could meet them.

                                                            My Favourite Sport

I play many sports. These include football, swimming,hurling and running. I enjoy these sports but my favourite sport is soccer.

I play Soccer for Skibbereen F.C. This sport has 11 players on each team. They switch sides every 45 minutes. There are 90 minutes in one game .My coaches names are Chris and Fiona .My position is a defender. I have to try block shots. You get points by scoring goals.

I like it because it is played fairly and is enjoyable. Its fun watching it on tv but even better actually being at the match.

It is played in big Stadiums with loads of seats. You can also play it in your back garden or in a pitch.

Soccer is very famous and is played all over the world. Lionel Messi is one of my favourite players I also like Fellani,Suarez and Gomez. Soccer was invented in the 1500 centuary.

Soccer Is fun and exciting therefore it is my favourite sport and I hope you like it too.

What is magic 

 Life is magic when dreams come true. 

When I went to America  it all came true.

 I felt like a king who ruled the world where magical dreams came true.

I lived in a place where my heart raced ten days in a row.

 Toys, Halloween, to Christmas and big pool parties, dolphins and whales with great big tales performing their shows of talent.

 With magic in the air to roller coasters I went big and small, fast and slow, twisting and turning, spinning and screaming pumping my heart faster than it could go.

The magic of a life time all came true and fairy tales too

My favourite sport

I like many sports I play football, hurling, athletic, soccer and swimming.

I like soccer the most its fun, enjoyable and its exercise.

I play soccer every Saturday with skibbereen A.F.C. I play midfield or striker. I think I rather midfield.

I support Liverpool F.C. My favourite player is either Messi or Suarez.  Suarez plays with Liverpool he’s their hero. He scores all their goals. But Messi, Messi he’s the world’s best player.  He plays with Barcelona. He beat the record for the most goals scored in a year. It was 85 but he got 94. He’s a legend.

 The Normans

Ireland before the Normans came.

Before the Normans came Ireland was separated in to eight kingdoms.

There was the kingdom of Leinster,  Connacht,  Breifne,  Meath,  Oriel,  Ulidia and the kingdom of the North.

Dermot mc murrough was the king of Leinster he was greedy and had many enemies.

The Normans arriving in Ireland

The Normans arrived in Ireland at about 1169 AD.

They other Kings defeated Dermot.  Dermot went to England to get help from king Henry the second.

Henry told him to go to Richard de clare.

He was known as Strongbow so he said he would help if he could be king and marry his daughter Aoife.

Dermot agreed.

Types of homes the Normans lived in.

When the Normans first came to Ireland they built wooden castles.

But after a while they moved into stone castles.

The most popular place in the castle was the great hall.

They were  mostly built on a hill near a river.

Their games , past times and farming methods.

The poor people played blind mans buff and knots and crosses.

But the rich people went hawking or hunted for deer.

Only for the Normans coming to Ireland most animals would be killed as a baby they thought us how to make hay.

  

The changes the Normans brought to Ireland.

When the Normans came to Ireland they made new names.

Archer, Baldwin , Barret , Barry, Belton , Bermingham , Butler, Browne , cuasack , Devereux , Dillian , Fleming , Fitzgerald , Fitzpatrick , Fitzmaurice , Lacy , Molyneux , Nugent , Roche , Tobin and Tyrrell

The Christian names the Normans brought to Ireland are: Eileen , Eamon , Eadmund , James , Richard , Gerald and Geraldine.

On Tuesday last we painted our Norman Castles. We hope you like the finished product.
