Bird Talk
After completing our Birds of Ireland project we were lucky that Jez who is a bird watcher was able to come in and talk to us. He gave us tips on the equipment needed to be a birdwatcher. He also taught us how to identify 10 birds that can be found around Ireland. We even got an opportunity to do some bird spotting in the school yard with his telescope. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.
Listening intently to Jez |
We worked with our partner on a quiz to identify the birds. |
First Class joined us and had a go at the quiz as well. |
We went outside Bird Spotting. |
We had to be quick as the birds didn't sit still for very long. |
Our Birds of Ireland projects |
Jez judged our projects. He was very impressed with all of them. Well Done to the three winners.

Maths Week
It is Maths Week this week.
Check out the favourite sites section of this blog for lots of links to Maths websites.
On Monday we played some fun dice games. Our fingers came in very handy with all the counting we had to do.
On Tuesday it was all about our tables.
We played "shoot off" in the classroom and some games with cards in the Halla. We are looking forward to doing a maths trail around the school tomorrow.

National Tree Day
Thursday was National Tree Day so in the afternoon we went outside to have a look at the sycamore tree growing beside our school. We took sketches and bark rubbing's. We observed the ivy growing up the trunk of the tree and the various plants and insects found at the base of the tree. We also gathered some leaves and helicopters. Back in the classroom we finished our drawings and made some leaf rubbing's. We looked up more information about the sycamore on the internet and displayed all our work in our scrapbooks.
Crotchet by Mya
Mya has just finished crocheting a tea cosy and brought it in to show us during the week. We were all very impressed with it.
Book Fair prize winners
For the Book Fair competition our class designed an alternate book cover for their favourite book. They were displayed in the halla during the Book Fair. The judges were very impressed with them all and had a difficult job making a final decision. Congratulations to our winner and runners up.
